What it is

What is Pain Management Therapy at this clinic?

Pain Management Therapy is a combination of four approaches chosen for your specific pain: acupuncture, DRX 9000 non-surgical spinal decompression, laser and light therapy, and CRA diagnostics. The combination addresses what is causing the pain rather than masking it. Acute pain takes 3 to 6 sessions; chronic pain takes 6 to 12.

Dr. Tsai is a state-certified Acupuncture Physician and Doctor of Oriental Medicine with 25 years of experience. He builds each plan around your specific pain, its history and how it affects your daily life, and the clinic covers 10 named pain areas from back pain through post-surgical recovery.

Our process

How does a pain management plan work?

A pain management plan runs in five steps: consultation, a customized treatment plan, the therapy sessions, lifestyle guidance and follow-up. Dr. Tsai selects from four modalities based on what your specific pain needs, and adjusts as you improve.

Your session

Which pains does this treat, and what happens at your first visit?

Pain Management Therapy treats chronic back pain, sciatica, arthritis, migraines, neck and shoulder tension, fibromyalgia, sports injuries and pain that has resisted medication. Every visit starts with an honest conversation about your pain before any treatment begins.

What to expect during your session

The conversation comes before the treatment, on the first visit and every one after.

  • A thorough intake of your pain history and daily impact
  • A physical evaluation of the affected area
  • A combination of therapies chosen for your case
  • A clear explanation of your plan and expected timeline
  • Aftercare guidance for between visits

Is acupuncture for pain painful?
No. The needles are extremely thin, so most patients feel mild tingling and deep relaxation rather than pain.
How many sessions will I need?
Acute pain takes 3 to 6 sessions. Chronic conditions take 6 to 12.
  • Acute pain: 3-6 sessions
  • Chronic conditions: 6-12 sessions
  • Maintenance: one visit per month
How soon will I notice a difference?
Most patients notice improvement after their first 1 to 2 sessions. Chronic pain that has built up over years needs a longer course of treatment.
What conditions does this cover?
Back pain, neck and shoulder pain, arthritis, sciatica, migraines, fibromyalgia, neuropathy, sports injuries, post-surgical pain and chronic pain syndrome. Those are the 10 areas - see Pain Management for each one.
What happens at my first visit?
A health intake, a conversation about your pain, a physical evaluation, your first treatment session, and aftercare instructions to take home.
Are there side effects?
Side effects are rare and mild. Occasional soreness at a needle site, or a feeling of drowsiness or deep relaxation after treatment, covers what patients report.
